6 secrets you and your employess can implement immediately to ensure that you stay at the top of your game

Now is the time to do more to care for your people!

Most organizations already provide good Mental Health Benefits and an Employee Assistance Hotline. Yet, employees do not use them.

There have always been times when nations have been crippled financially, mentally, and physically. Such times call for reassessment, adjustment, and conditioning oneself to the new and often unwelcome, daunting changes.

While we cannot control external factors, what we can and should do is take proactive actions to manage ourselves by engaging in simple, practical, and effective strategies to maintain our physical, mental, and emotional health and wellness.

BUT WHERE DO WE BEGIN? – IT STARTS RIGHT AT THE TOP

Positive mental health in an organization starts at the top. CEOs and business owners need to be in a good place physically, mentally, and emotionally to perform their best. They then need to model this behaviour in their organization and implement appropriate health and wellness policies that become an integral part of their culture.

This leads to drive employee engagement, boosts productivity and profits, and gives an edge over competitors.

GOOD WORKPLACE WELLNESS PRACTICES ARE GOOD FOR BUSINESS BECAUSE IT MEANS…
  • Better focus from an inspired workforce. Engaged, self-motivated, high-performance teams
  • A marked reduction in absenteeism. Increased staff retention
  • High performance coupled with zero or very low burnout
  • Having a work environment conducive to creativity and innovation
  • Strengthening interpersonal relationships. Better health and happiness overall
  • Most importantly, a resilient, positive MINDSET trained for success
  1. Understanding & Taking Care of Your Brain:- Science is catching up to the fact that brain health is directly and intimately linked to mental health and wellness. Looking after your brain is the best strategy to stay healthy in mind, body, and spirit.
It is the most fragile and important organ in the human body. It manages our thoughts, emotions, feelings, decisions, actions, and energy. It is one of the key organs that determine our mental, and emotional fitness.
  2. Managing Stress:- Stress very commonly manifests in the form of behavioural issues such as anger, irritability, psychological issues like depression, physical symptoms such as aches and pains, sleep issues, fatigue, and so on. Chronic stress can seriously impair our cognitive and decision-making abilities. Chronic stress kills brain cells, rewires the brain negatively, shrinks the pre-frontal cortex, increases inflammation, and impairs the immune system.
WHAT CAN HELP
  • Become aware of your thoughts – You feel the way you think
  • Practice mindfulness – The present moment holds immense power
  • Relax the nervous system through meditation, breath work, etc
  • Ask POWER QUESTIONS
  1. Motivation vs Inspiration:- Keeping oneself inspired is perhaps one of the keys to living a successful, abundant life. While motivation is important and has its place, especially in the corporate world, it is the inspiration of being pulled by a vision that keeps us going even under trying circumstances. Work-life balance is one of the key drivers that determine employee satisfaction. It is important to reflect on what motivates us and what inspires us in life and at work. The answers can very often lead to unexpected epiphanies.
  2. Mindset Training:- This is by far the most important factor for peak performance. Mindset can make or break an individual’s career and life. Most of us are suffering from self-sabotaging beliefs, behaviours, and habits. Unless we identify those unhealthy patterns, we cannot expect to address these problems afflicting us and change ourselves for the better by creating habits wired for success.
  3. Taking Constructive Pauses:- A constructive pause is when we sit down and simply write down whatever thoughts surface, allowing the mind to speak freely with us, without taking any action or analyzing the thoughts. There are many benefits of doing this that cannot be encapsulated or summarized here. However, this is a highly effective practice that can lead us to the most pestering inner issues that we may miss otherwise by allowing us to deliberately slow down and listen to the inner voice.
  4. Setting Clear Goals for Mental Health and Well-being:- Setting clear goals for our mental health and wellness is the first and most important step towards achieving them. Write down what is most important for you. Then list down ways in which you can get there. Set timelines. This will set you up for a healthy growth trajectory. Consistently do what you have written down for the next 2 to 3 months and you will never look back again.

“The melding of mindfulness with cognitive therapy has become the most empirically well-validated psychological treatment……to treat people with mental health issues.”

Dr. Daniel Goleman
